They know in their heart of hearts that they will do whatever it takes to win. Five lives are immediately turned upside down.

And I'm so glad I became hooked so early on because it's an absolute corker of a novel, a non-stop thrill ride for the reader.įive strangers across the globe receive a text message from an unknown number. There was not a squeak of a chance that I would let this novel pass me by. And when I say 'needed' what I actually meant was NEEDED in big, shouty capitals. I have to admit that when I saw the tagline of this book, before I'd even read the blurb, I knew it was a book I needed in my life.

I chose to read and review a free eARC of The Game but that has in no way influenced my review. I look forward to reading more by this author and I would happily recommend this book. The characters are not all likeable, but this is down to how the author portrays them. It is a thriller and I really enjoyed the story. This is intriguing, I liked the time element and the mystery that was underlying all the way through. I soon found that I got to know who was who especially when they do meet up to actually continue The Game. I liked how the author introduced each player and then kept referring back to things in the past. Because they have been drawn from different countries it makes any connection unlikely. The players are normal people, with normal lives. The suspense of wondering if any of the players will do something stupid or brave is an ever[present one. There is a lot more to this story than the synopsis gives away. The author does pace this story so well, it is one where some players are on a time limit, and this increases the tension of the story. There was a curiosity to both stories but I was never fully aware of what was occurring until further into the story.

The consequences are not as clear cut as I originally thought they might be. There are 5 players in this game, they are unconnected, they are oblivious to each other and they have travelled from the US, France and Uk to meet up so they can learn more about The Game. What is The Game, who runs it, why is this being done and what would you do to keep those you love safe and alive! This is a mystery thriller, that does have a crime element to it, but it is more about the mystery of The Game. Snappy title, simple graphic and the line - The rules are simple. I have to admit it was the cover that first caught my eye with this book. I'd like to thank HQ and Netgalley for the auto approval, I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day. I didn't particularly care for any of the characters which is probably why I found it hard going at times, but I'm glad I continued with it and was quite surprised when all was revealed. The blurb for this story really intrigued me, so I was expecting great things, the chapters are short and told alternately by each of the five players and it's a great premise but it's a really slow burner and didn't really pick up until the last third of the book, having said that, I found I was intrigued enough to want to find out what happened and see who was behind this deadly game of cat and mouse. But who is the person behind The Game and why have these five people been chosen to play? There can only be one winner and they are all determined to win and bring their loved ones home. They are given strict instructions not to contact anyone for help and are told an address to go to in the UK, where they will play the game, if they fail to reach their destination in the time specified they will lose. To save them, each must play The Game – there is just one rule: there can only be one winner. The Game follows five strangers from three countries across the world, brought together by a very sinister text message I can't give spoilers but there is a massive hole where an answer should be and I'm so annoyed! It was a 3 star but because of that big unanswered question literally keeping me up that night, it's dropped to a 2. I started to get really into it.īut those last few scenes in Scotland? This is where the book let me down. It took til the 60% mark for it to really ramp up and get to the good stuff for me. This hit hard for me as a mum of 2 and preyed on all my fears. Then we had the parts where the mums were worrying about their kids going missing. We went through the first text 5 times over. We are following 5 players and I get we need to hear their story's and get to know them, but it felt quite repetitive for me. It took me forever to get into the story. All the tension, suspence, mystery goodness I love to read. The blurb for this sounded so much like a 5 star read for me. Thanks Netgalley for an advanced copy of this one.
